"The problem with this statement is that it puts the two people involved on equal footing. They are not."

This is exactly right. This is what I was saying in my piece about what's wrong with his speeches. Obama, in his quest to see both sides, is always giving the impression that both sides are equal. That their behavior toward the opposite side is identical.

Ugh. It's disgusting

Not that I am anti-American, far from it actually, but this is one of my huge problems with our system. Those that seemingly have the most power (i.e. the police) usually don't have the education and furthermore the wherewithall necessary to perform that job correctly. If you need an advanced degree to run a business, or represent someone in court, why don't you need one to carry a gun? and potentially shoot someone? There aren't many doctors detaining people, or shooting people without knowing all the facts. Some of these incidents would be avoided if more rational people were involved, not to speak on this subject specifically, but in general.

As for Obama, its like you said...great political move. As much as I hate to admit it, everyone in America is not exactly a genius. A lot of people will see this event as a positive step because "look! both parties are there, with the president as a mediator, and they're talking out their differences!" But honestly, it will accomplish nothing, if for no other reason, based on the fact that a two person conversation can't fix race relations in America, and anything "positive" coming out of that conversation would probably not be believed by black America anyway.
