Shaq vs (Good Television)

shaq-vs

Episode two of “Shaq vs” airs this Tuesday at 9PM. The premise: NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal attempts to beat professional athletes at versions of their own sports. Last week, Shaq took on Ben Roethlisberger in a game of football. This week, Shaq faces Misty May-Treanor & Kerri Walsh in a beach volleyball match. Future episodes feature competitions against Serena Williams, Albert Pujols and Michael Phelps.

For the most part, the show is a total waste of time. Literally. The actual competition doesn’t take place until 45 minutes into the show. The rest of the time is full of fake interviews, uncomfortable trash talk between strangers, and scenes of Shaq “training” in the sport of the week. Shaq vs lacks suspense and is generally poor television, but… I am not sure that I won’t watch it again. I’m a die-hard sports fan and the gimmick is good. At the very least, its gotta be better than this.

Um, this post title is hilarious. Thing is, there really is nothing better on TV right now (network TV at least) than watching Shaq run back an illegal 80 yard interception return on Ben Roethlisberger. You pretty much summed up my feelings toward the show, like, "Listen, I can't promise I won't watch this again."
