Here is the video of Guy Dupey’s hyped dunk in London during Midnight Madness (courtesy of Yahoo). Dupey jumps over another kid while catching a ball off the bounce, brings it between his legs and slams it. On paper: awesome. In the NBA dunk contest: all tens. The hops and coordination are undeniable, but let me get my Skip Bayless on for a moment. Nothing he did was new. Yeah, he combined a few tricks. But when was the last time you saw someone do something original? How hard would it be for someone to catch a ball in the middle of a cartwheel, push off with his arms and dunk with his shoes? Dupey gets his respect, but until I see him catch in each hand basketballs shot from Jugs machines, while at the same time eating grapes that were thrown in his mouth by the girls from the “Best I Ever Had” video, and then dunk the basketball into adjacent baskets, I am gonna ask him to do better.
