Heinz Field...After the game

The Aftermath is a quick look at the Steelers game from the viewpoint of some arm chair QB’s who may or may not know anything about football.

This Week’s Game = Steelers vs. Titans.

Had the pleasure of attending this game.  A few thoughts:

  • The Steelers O-Line has had a year to gel.  They looked horrible. True, Stapleton is gone…and Tennessee has a good defense…but to have their line give up that much penetration on each running play (and the passing plays as well?) That doesn’t bode well for the season.
  • In the same vein as the first point…we will not win many games if Ben has to throw +40 times a game. Even if he’s throwing Tom Brady style 5 yard passes.
  • The three high school girls in the seats in front of me = very annoying. And good Lord…no one needs to run their hands through their hair that much.  And that guy Randy at school who you guys kept talking about? He’s not cute. Get over it.
  • To the Cougar-lady sitting next to those girls…one word. Underwear.
  • The Steelers consistently play cover 2 or cover 3 on 3rd downs. That’s good, because we can protect our corners, and secondary in general…BUT it only works if we can get pressure on the QB.  Collins had too much time, on more than one occasion, due to lack of pressure, and his receivers were able to find holes in the zones.
  • Polamalu’s injury…the Madden Curse lives! Larry Fitzgerald will be attacked by zombies before Sunday.
  • Hines Ward’s fumbled today hurt his pride so much, I predict that he won’t fumble anymore this season.
  • Didn’t really notice any let down with Lawrence Timmons being out for the game.  A testament to LeBeau’s defensive schemes and the play of Keyaron Fox.
  • Could NBC have asked for a better script to the opener?  They got the Super Bowl champs in overtime.  No offensive shoot out, but for football purists (why is it that whenever someone is a purist that means that you can’t score any points), the game was great.
  • Stefan Logan looked just as good in this first game as he did in the preseason.  His returning combined with Sepulveda’s ability to actually punt the ball will help the Steelers a lot this season…as it did tonight.

The Steelers are 1-0.
