White man interrupts the President of the United States during a nationally-televised speech to Congress: not so bad.  Black man interrupts pop singer during speech to fake awards show audience on cable television: kind of a big deal.  I’m not saying Kanye isn’t a jerk, I’m just saying relax, everybody.  It’s not that serious.

By the way, my favorite defense of Joe Wilson:

But is this actually the worst of times in congressional politics? Not really. When the going gets tough, congressional politics has often gotten ugly. Throughout much of the 19th century, legislators disliked each other so much they often got into fistfights on the floor.

Yeah, also throughout much of the 19th century: slavery.  So is the 19th century really the best barometer for modern-day values and etiquette?
